In this video, David expresses his outrage at the competition currently being promoted on the YouTube Creator's Corner Blog by fellow YouTube cook Paula Deen.

IF YOU ARE OFFENDED BY THIS CONTEST TOO, FEEL FREE TO LODGE A COMPLAINT WITH YOUTUBE, KRAFT FOODS (The sponsor of the contest) OR WITH PAULA DEEN HERSELF.

Her contest is only open to women and strictly forbids men from entering the contest, in what can only be described as the most blatant examples of sexism I have seen in quite some time. (See blog link above)

I am stunned that YouTube would promote such an obviously sexist contest. If I created a competition that banned women from entering, I would be torn apart (and possibly kicked off YouTube) but apparently it's OK for women to discriminate against men.

I love how sexism is the new path to female empowerment. For shame Paula Deen.

  • It's genderist on both ends. The idea that only women should be cooking, is offensive to me as a man, but also as a feminist. I think you went off the rails a bit when you insisted on setting up the cultural hypothetical about a contest only being for men, because there are many things accepted as either explicitly or de facto exclusive to men as well. Culture accepts cooking as a female domain, but if you had say, anything sports related, nobody would think twice if it excluded women by rule.

  • I think you exposed a bit of misogyny on your part by using that very common and very misguided angle that sexism is more accepted from women than men these days. Racists say that minorities get away with things in much the same way you posed your analogy about women geting away with more.

Either way, it should be noted that the crassness of a Kraft sponsored cooking contest/marketing gimmick, hosted by an insufferable fuckwit butter hog is as offensive as any casual genderism involved.

  • @IPossessAHugePenis That isn't misogyny, thats cold hard fact. Women do get away with sexism more than men. A good example: a recent tv commercial (not surprisingly by Kraft) features a woman making rather overt sexual references about 2 men cooking for her in the kitchen, then ends in her slapping one on the buttocks and saying the food "is low fat, so you'll have to think of a new way of being naughty" - if it was a man saying and doing that to 2 women, you'd never hear the end of it.

  • I think the analogy is valid. A cooking contest is a gender neutral, non physical competition. Unlike a cooking contest, a person of a certain might be excluded because their physical attributes may not match those involved eg: it would be unfair for a man to be in a weightlifting contest against all-female contenders, as there would be an obvious physical advantage.

PS: your "insufferable fuckwit butter hog" comment is one of the funniest things I have ever read!!!

  • It what world is it illegal? It really isn't.

  • @Gleebo Are you serious??? You don't know that sexual discrimination is illegal? If you think it isn't, try interviewing a woman for a job and telling her she won't get hired because she's female. You'll soon find out how illegal it is...

  • @bh4evr1 It's a shame you didn't bother to PAY ATTENTION to what I said in the video. There is no logical reason for men to be excluded from a cooking contest. A cooking contest is DIFFERENT from a sporting contest where physical strength would make a difference between genders.

Why don't you grow up - you might gain an attention span capable of watching a 3 minute video...

  • "Because I have a Y chromosome and a reasonably sized penis" Loved how you snuck that one in there. lol You have EVERY reason to feel that way. Hell, I'm female, don't care much about the contest, wouldn't enter in a million years yet, I'm pissed. There is no logical explaination or reason to exclude men from the contest. It's ridiclous. IF it were a popular male chef and excluded women from a contest, there would be marching and protests all over.

  • what are women doing outside of the kitchen? GET BACK WOMEN!!!!!!!

  • damn hes BIG

  • Please contact me @ my email jeffreygoldade at gmail dot com please

  • Kind of like saying it's okay that black people can do this and white people can't, then it is the end of the world when it is the other way around.

  • damn woman! go make us sammiches!

  • No...IT IS acceptable in this age...girls do this all the time...look around you, I know there are women only jobs when I look in the paper! Do i have to bring back the classic:double standard! Anyhow, Igot used to it....

  • gender bias and sexism runs deep on both sides for everything and i agree that it is rather frustrating to experience it in this and age but there are more pressing issues than a cooking contest.

aside from the fact that even though cooking is a "woman's domain" the irony is that men still dominate the professional cooking world. i hardly ever see a recurrent cooking competition where more than a fraction of the winners are female.

  • I understand why your mad ...i do like PD ...but the best recipes i have been getting is from your videos! I'm from the U.S.A ...and believe me your recipes would win hands down! your soooooooo passionate..! about what you do so hell yeah! wishing you the best cant wait to watch another food video...my children love it when they know i'm watching you ...because their will be something new on the table !

  • @jeffreygoldade You won the secondary competition, established after the original contest received such a major negative backlash.

I guess it's not sexist to exclude an entire gender from entering a contest (with a first prize of $25,000 etc) , then back track and create a new contest for both genders with prize money of $500...

  • Well I won so what does that say? You can win. This is not sexist they were just looking for a woman as a host.... I can understand where you are coming from, but as of July you could compete...
