Part 1 of a government produced propaganda documentary from 1954.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
In the peace treaty at the end of World War II Finland had to cede large areas to it's attacker in the war, the Soviet Union. Most of the inhabitants in those areas, among them many Carelians, chose to leave their homes rather than stay in Stalin's Soviet. Judging from this film the Finnish government certainly did their best to find new homes for these refugees.

Was it a smart move for the Carelians to leave their homes instead of becoming Soviet citizens? Some of the answer can be found by clicking on this link: http://www.genealogia.fi/emi/art/article255e.htm
