The idyllic pioneer village at Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell Indiana is the setting for the opening event of the community's annual Persimmon Festival. It's a wonderfully casual atmosphere of acoustic music, pioneer craft demonstrations, hot cider, caramel apples, sassafras tea and of course of the featured delicacy of the festival, persimmon pudding.
when is the persimmon fest in 2009? I assume in the fall?

This project I'm working on sure has taught me some interesting facts about parts of Indiana. For example, Spring Mill was built in 1815 by a Canadian seaman. It stayed in business until 1850 and after a period of closure due to the railroads, the site was bought by the county which then convinced the state to turn this into the park it is today. I love this park. But, we've yet to be to the festival. Maybe someday sooner than later.
