When I was a kid my dad was trying to buy a DC-3 to fix up and take to fly-ins. He figured how the DC-3 would make a great camper. Pop got one but when we were working on it he realized how much it would take to get it airworthy.

1940... the year radar was first invented. The DC-3 would take 18 hours to cross the country with three refuels... of course, at the time, it was by far faster than anything that had come before (a year for a stagecoach trip just a century before, anyone?)
