I know what youre thinking right now...Survivor, what the hell is Utley doing? I have a perfectly good explanation. As some of you know, and for those who dont, my family consists of my wife, our three daughters...and myself. Being the only guy in the house living with four women often makes life interesting. In the course of a week, I can guarantee that the softer side of our house will be watching a number of the many reality shows that have taken over television programming. If its not The Biggest Loser, Dancing with The Stars, American Idol, Americas Top Model, or The Bachelor/Bachelorette, its Survivor.

Recently, after watching the season finale of Survivor with my family, my youngest daughter asked if I would tryout to become a contestant for the upcoming season. I nonchalantly said that I would look into it. I guess she took my passing Ill look into it comment, as a Yes, Ill do it commitment! A week or so passed and she and her friends began asking me if I had signed-up yet. So I decided to give it a go and take it on as a pet project in my spare time.

To be honest, I had no clue that applying for a TV show would take so much of my time, and I also didnt realize how much fun it would end up being. One thing is for sure, its tougher than you would imagine thinking of the best ways to promote yourself as a potential reality show contestant.

To be considered as a contestant, you have to complete and submit a fairly lengthy contestant application, chalked full of get-to-know-you-type questions. In addition, youre required to create an audition video. The CBS.com/Survivor Web site provides the dos and donts for the video including: A maximum of 3 minutes, be creative, talk about yourself, your family and the reasons why you feel you can become the next Ultimate Survivor.

With this being said, the first two minutes of my audition video was intended as a creative introduction. The last minute of the video is me, in front of the camera, pitching myself as being a worthy contestant. Each story/clip that appears in the intro represents situations that Ive experienced over my 45 years. Some of the brief stories are very loosely based on events, fictionalized and embellished for the sake of creativity and fun! Some of the stories are factual and happened. I hope that you enjoy watching my Survivor audition video. Also checkout the Web site I created which features this video, the above back-story and the creative package that I sent my audition DVD and contestant application to Survivor for their review.
