Every year about this time, something comes over us and we get this urge to cut into pumpkins. It's interesting how certain traditions persist for thousands of years and even continue to grow, like Jack-o-lanterns for Halloween.

  • It´s Ok. Interesting and useful for students.

  • @jc7622 Thank you, and it was a turnip that was given to Jack to light his way, people began to use pumpkins as they were bigger easier to carve.

  • Samhain is actually pronounced "sow win". It became a christian holiday when Pope Gregory I declared that the christians would create holidays on top of the pagan holidays and would also adopt most of the pagan customs that went along with it, but put a christian name and spin on it. Christmas is the same way, a pagan holiday that was "christianized".
