A possible two-way link has been identified between cardiovascular disease and depression in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. Neuropsychologist Laura Julian found a high prevalence of depression in lupus patients and that lupus patients with cardiovascular disease were at an increased risk for new onset depression. Diligent screening is essential, she says. Dr. Julian discusses her research presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Rheumatology. GMNN's Mitchel Zoler reports.
