  • See, government that is doing what it's supposed to be doing, such as defense, civic infrastructure, maintaining the rule of law all as outlined by the Constitution IS limiting government. Spending money on defense can sometimes be wasteful, but it's also a Constitutionally mandated function. What is wasteful is government spending money on entitlements like Social Security, Medicare, and public education, because they're not Constitutional (which makes them illegal).

  • The real trick is that this minor terrorist threat is being used as a justification to roll back many basic liberties. We experienced much less of this during the height of the Cold War vs a real opponent with a large well equiped military. These islamo-facists have second hand soviet rifles and some RPGs, and little else.

We didn't give up our liberties when fighting the British at the birth of our nation, so why should we start now vs a very feeble opponent.

  • I can answer the disparity you seem to see. The primary role of the federal government is defense. We're dealing with an enemy now that cannot contend with us militarily on our level because they know they can't. But they are backed by nations. They don't say so directly, because if they did they would be finished. Rather, they use these asssasins as covert weapons to go after us in an effort to sow terror so that we change government policy. This is a proper role of government.

  • This national backing has not given them much. They still use meager weapons after more then 10 years of this. All while we spend ridiculous amounts of money trying to police places that just happen to have extensive oil pipelines. This at a time when we have massive debt and angry creditors.

  • OH DEAR GOD BUDDY UPGRADE YOUR SOUND SYSTEM! I seriously can't understand a word you are saying!

  • I wouldn't call high explosives meager. Sure, they may not have all the capability of a modern military but they don't need to. But there's another issue; Iran. Iran may be very close to detonating their own nuclear weapon. That will change things in their favor. Israel will be a primary target, and chances are they'll do whatever it takes to go after Tel Aviv. And they will go after an American or Western target next.

  • Actually, this is not a minor terrorist threat. They're backed by nations that cannot hope to stand against us directly on military terms. So they use a weapon that isn't officially linked to them. And they use that weapon primarily against civilian targets. This has been going on for decades, and I'm still not convinced we've been taking this very seriously.

We haven't given up any liberties except the right not to be frisked at an airport, to which I think is a bad idea anyway.

  • Thanks ill look into getting a real digital video cam... once the prices on the basic models get low enough and the functionality gets good enough.

  • @Raptoreyes The best way to do a video is often not with a webcam. Use a digital video camera (with a decent mic if you can get one) and record on that. Then transfer your video direct to your HD (I put mine on DVD - spares my HD). You should have no problem after that.

  • Right... did you have a point?
