PK78 Sailing Dinghy- The 1st Launch

It's finished! Well, for the most part. This is the first launch and it went pretty well, it would have been better if there was wind.

I had a small leak around the daggerboard trunk which I am going to fix. The weather is ugly here for the next few days so no more sea trials. But that will give me time to fix the leak and finish the oars (I'm making a video about building the oars too).

I'm building one of these right now. The hull is all stitched and almost all glued up. Can't wait to sail it! I plan to try it out on a day with more wind than that though. Have you taken it out on a 20kt+ wind day yet? How fast does it go? It seems a bit unstable due to the curved hull. But I thought I would build it anyway since I like the shape. Reminds me of dinghy designs from the 1800s.

@nearadyn Hope your enjoying the build, it's a great experience. I have sailed it in about 10-15kt winds and it was just fine. I had the old painters canvas as a sail, the same one in the video and it worked ok, but it wouldn't point very well and the sail shape was horrible. I bought and built a real sail for it from Sailrite and recieved all of the pieces cut and the materials to complete the sail. My mother and I completed it pretty easily and I can't wait to try it, just can't find time.

very good the video! The boat was very well done. I thought the boom a bit low .. it anyway? I ask you something .. which the difference of D5 for Pk87?

Again, congratulations on boat. Despite weak winds, it is always good fun sailing.

Thanks jota! Yeah, the boom was a bit low. I am going to work on the rigging because it was not perfect at all. A few of the knots where help in place with duct tape. THe difference, I'm not very certain, but I think the PK 78 is a bit wider so there is more room on the inside.

Cool mate... watched your construction vids and now this one. Great sense of satisfaction buildin your own boat isnt it. I posted a couple of movies of when I built my own outboard runabout too so have a look if ya get the chance. Great job.
