  • Aug '11 Nickolas Ashford wrote this and he passed this month. I have only ever heard my favorite women singing this. Glad to find another woman sharing this song.

  • @lesbianmusic Actually, I'm a male sharing this song, but thanks for posting, LM. Have you never heard the original hit by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell? Laura's is my favourite version, but Marvin and Tammi did a fine version too, as well as Miss Ross with her later hit, which Laura clearly borrowed from with the recitation.

  • Denknee, Saw lyrics for tune "Wind Circles," which may have been destined for

album Nested...Is there a recording or demo of this tune out there?

  • @Buckspring95 As far as I know, Buckspring, 'Wind Circles' was a poem Laura wrote and was printed on the inner sleeve to the album 'Nested'. I've never come across any information regarding it as a song, but who knows what Laura may have written and never released or at least performed live.

  • Sorry, I meant, "When I Fall in Love..." Stuck in Bacharach/David, I guess...

  • @Buckspring95 It's part of a medley of "Ooh Child" and "When I Fall In Love". Performed September 1, 1991, Bumbrella Stage, Seattle, Washington.

  • What an incredible rendition of this song. The first time I listened to this I thought "Hmmm, the audio is not very good...now (after listening to it approximately 400,000 times) I realize the audio is perfect.

  • @zatoth13 I agree there may be a bit of her own real life experiences in the songs, but to me, most of Laura's earlier works(pre "Smile")seem to have more of a imaginative fantasy element to them. She was a true Wordsmith on those first 4 albums, whereas the later songs tend to be a bit more autobiographical. Barbara did a nice job on "Stony", as did the others who covered her, but Laura is just a one in a zillion talent, that no one, no matter how good, can compete with on her home turf.

  • @Lovemylovething the problem with anoher performer singing her work is that it seems a lot about nyro is in her songs. when nyro sang "stoney end", it makes more sense than when streisand sang it because it is about nyro's own personal identity struggles.

  • @denknee the version i have the most powerful image of is diana ross's when she was performing during a storm. nyro though was one of those songwriters that you are not aware of who she was until you hear all the songs she did.

  • I so miss Laura, her music will live forever

  • オリジナルとは全く違った解釈で素敵ですね!

    さすがローラ!。どこまでアドリブなんでしょうかね?

  • Yes, awesome. Many compliments to dearest Laura..

  • Awesome version.

  • This gave me chills. Compared to the overblown version by Diana Ross this version proves the point that there is beauty in simplicity.

  • denknee -- Mil gracias!!!
