From KETC, LIVING ST. LOUIS Producer Jim Kirchherr takes a look back at the history of the development of the St. Louis riverfront that would eventually lead to the construction of the Gateway Arch. As the 40th anniversary of its completion approaches, learn more about the importance of this national monument that remains the tallest in the country.
I forgot to mention in my post below that this was in the fall of 1965.

I was a sophomore in high school when the Arch was completed; many kids skipped school to watch the final top section inserted. I wish I had!

I remember when they were about to build the Arch. I was in grade school & the teachers had us all write our names on some papers that were to be placed in the cornerstone of the Arch when it was being built. Also it was cool to have the stadium that had the arches all around the top. I miss the old Busch Stadium.
