Great day out for fishing, overcast, choppy water, lots of life under water. Been stalking baits boiling on the surface for hours, big bait's been nervous at all times. Watch for water spout at 1:21. Finally I got a sleigh ride of a life time. Knife on hand in case needed. I had enough, I put my feet on the water, tightened the drags in hope of slowing down the beast. Broke my line off after miles of sleigh ride. Lesson learned: some sharks are best left alone!!

  • Hi Johnny, awesome vids. Trying to pluck the courage up to try for shark off the yak myself. Its looks a serious rush to feel their power so close to the water but can you tell me the average size shark you catch and how big do you reckon the shark was for that sleigh ride. Crazy lookn. REason I ask is where im from they range from 50lb to 150lb anything bigger would be great catch. So if i bumped into a 150lb shark would it tow you like in your video.

Looking forward to some more crazy videos!!

  • @MsTimotay A 150lb Shark specially Mako could give you a very good work out. They can pull your kayak at speed of 3 to 4 knots sustained for up to 15 minutes. You better be prepared to cut your line in split seconds should you feel you loosing control of the situation. I will never use more than 30Lb. main line 40-80Lb leader when fishing on a kayak. At any rate the size of the game fish does not matter to me as long as I am in control.

    Cheers,

  • hey bud!

do you use wire when you fish for threshers?

im setting up my rigs and dont wanna over do it

your videos are awesome and i love your comments and words of wisdom they are truley helpfull

  • @lexiloo114 No, I don't use wire leader.I use fluorocarbon mono filament 80-100LB by 12 longis more than enough to handle any sharks caught on kayaks. I have safely landed thresher sharks on a 40LB. leader. Good luck! johnnyceviche

  • I fish for Himalayan Mahseer in India. I enjoyed watching your videos. I'd like to try Kayak fishing on reservoirs and rivers here. Please recommend a great inflatable kayak . Also, I' d like to know what setup you use to throw plugs and artificials, line preferences and spinning/BC rods-reels

    Thanks and Regards

    Harsh

  • @hsrana Harsh thank for watching my videos. I have not use inflatable kayak so I do not have any information about it. Sorry I could not help you with that. As for fishing gear you need to match it to the size of fish you plan in catching. I will break it down the fishing gear in 3 groups of rod and reel combo. Group one 8-12lbs for fish 5-Lbs and below. Group two 12-25lbs rod/reel combo for 5-20lbs fish. Group three 25- 50 Lbs rod reel combo for fish 25lbs-150 lbs.

    Good Luck, johnnyceviche

  • So cool. Troll up the chum line. That's where the big sharks lurk.

  • Beast!!
