Final eviction of Pretorious 28, and Joe's garage squat, October 2008. No barricading but many who supported it and went there regularly, stayed inside to be arrested (36 people). During the the seven and a half years of this squat it has changed hands between many owners but always within the same circle of criminals and speculators. This is how it remains today and why people disagreed with the last court decision and wanted to make a public statement and peacefully resist the eviction.

Joes garage has now moved accross the road to another squat.

There seems to be a huge gap between housing theory/policy and housing reality in Amsterdam and the Netherlands. What is needed is a thorough investigation as to what has gone so drastically wrong with the housing situation since the privitisation of social housing. Why have so many people been forced out from their long term rental houses often with no option but to move to completely new neighbourhoods?
