Mendota C-C

Look for a new fire engine in Mendota within the next year. Thats because the city council Monday evening approved spending up to 475-thousand dollars for a new pumper. Under the plan, the rig would replace the departments aging 1976 Ford pumper, which according to city officials, sees little, if no action these days. The new 2010 Alexis could also replace the departments 1985 Kenworth, which has a pump that is no longer built. Whats at issue is how much the engine is worth and what would the rural fire protection district like to do as they own half of the engine. Back to the new pumper, the city plans to purchase the K-M-E chassis this year—equipped with an inline-six Cummins diesel. Then, Alexis would finish outfitting the engine with a 1,000 gallon tank and pump, which can dish out 15-hundred gallons per minute. The city would use TIF funds to buy the fire truck between both years. It should take about 11 months to build the truck.
