A Transforming Power story from the film, Beyond Rangoon. In Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi, Nobel Peace laureate, nonviolently faces the guns of government troops during a protest.
I've began a project which involves collecting Transforming Power stories on video. Transforming Power stories are about conflicted, harmful, and/or potentially violent situations that have been resolved nonviolently. Transforming Power (TP) is the central principle used in Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) workshops, and is the power that can transform and de-escalate harmful conflict situations. If you know of a YouTube video, or a movie or other video that includes a TP story, please let me know. If you would like more info about AVP go to http://www.avpusa.org/ or http://www.avpcalifornia.org/index.php.

  • That's the real event that really happened in City of Rangoon ( Now Yangon) Burma ( Now Myanmar). Thousand of people were shot to death during this protest.

  • I don't know is this fake or not but i do love Aung San Suu Kyi ^^

  • Wow, if that really happened like that!

  • fake one but still impressive.

  • I love this movie it's amazing!

  • She was also repeatedly groped and violated by men during the crowd scenes. Truth. I read an interview with her about the movie in which she discussed this. It became an almost insurmountable obstace.

  • Thanks for the sharing.

  • But they did that on purpose. If you see old videos taken from the 1988 Burmese Uprising, you will that the people are waving flags that are upside down. I think they were showing their discontent to the regime as the flag shown is the flag of Ne Win's brutal government.

  • Patricia Arquutte must have found it rough physically. She was barefoot for many of the scenes in the jungle.

  • Just type Beyond Rangoon in youtube search you can find part 1 to 11 to watch full movie.
