whoever (especially cypriot) says a bad word about Makarios is a disgrace. The man was a saint and only tried the best possible for our country. He was simply overpowered by an American led plan to invade Cyprus for military purposes (Acheson Plan in the 50s). In Kissinger's words "Makarios was too clever for his own good". @sgeorgio66 - For a professor of history you seem to have a point of view, and that is a disadvantage. Would you call a Scott μαλάκας for claiming to be a Scott rather than British? Would you have called a Cretan the same for referring to himself as a Cretan?

The Greeks of Cyprus are still upset with our national tragedy, more than other Greeks, because they are on the receiving end. The memory is still very vivid about what happened.
