If it doesnt have: a reliable magazine, a bayonet lug and iron sights, it aint tactical.

I would stay away from remington .22s. I have a 597 and it jams up all the time. It has been sent back to remington and they still can't fix it.

@MadOgre yeah, it runs perfect though with centurion ammo. its starting to jam with other brands though, but i've never cleaned through about 700 rounds

@seadevil38 dont use cheap ammo...i use nothing but cci's and it works fine, lack of cleaning is another downfall, the 597's are very particular, i agree that there is probably better .22's out there but the rem. 597 is not a bad choice by any means, try looking at volquartsens website...they offer a plethora of parts for these guns

@MadOgre how heavy are they ?????

@seadevil38 is it a VTR or the original 597 lr?
-
what sling fits on it i have it and a few ive tried out havent fit any ideas?
-
@seadevil38 you have to get the right ammo for this gun, i use remington viper ammo, and i didnt get a single jam.

@1PATRI0T i bought mine for about $500 if i remember right.

is this a good gun? i have the normal 597 and the thing is a real work horse, i've put damn near 25,000 rounds through the thing i believe (and i bought it used) and she works like a charm. and i have to agree with nmende a "tactical" without iron sights is fucking ridiculous
How do you disassemble this? The farthest ive gottin is taking the side plates off

I heard these were prone to jams and failure to feeds? wanting to get one but having second thoughts..

The early 597's did have some jamming issues due to poorly made magazines. The original polymer mags would burr up and failures to feel were the result. Subsequent metal bodied magazines fixed the issue.
