We can accept Obama's challenge and make change at the local level using complementary currencies to create and retain jobs, produce housing, provide health care and elder care, and reduce the carbon and greenhouse gas emissions driving climate change. We don't need lots of federal funding and major policy change - we just need to mobilize using old-fashioned community organizing skills.

  • Jct: Nice video on benefits of local monies. 2:40 you say the problem is the creation of lots and lots of money. It's the corresponding creation of lots and lots of debt with interest that's causes our insufficient money supply. All get Principal P and all owe P+I so P/(P+I) survive their mort-gage musical chairs death-gamble and I/(P+I) get knocked into foreclosure resulting in less goods backing up the money, inflation Shift B, not more money chasing the goods, inflation Shift A.

  • Unfortunately the Federal government will be dictating the Carbon credit model. Local timebanks and barter currency are probably a good investment for individuals and communities but do little to insure permaculture if a community is dependent on outside resources, and state and federal funding. Some Towns and Townships continue to expand their role without being asked and increase property taxes and find NEW things to tax. Mobilizing communities via timebanks may help control this problem.

  • Too wordy. Pity because the message is important.
