@hjb103055 You got to be kidding. The highest we went around here was 55 cents. I remember the problem when gas reached the dollar mark. All the pumps only had cents on them, no space for the dollars. In 1978, gas was around 61 cents in CA.

I hate to tell you this, Mike old buddy, but the "doomsayers" were right. Prices of gas really are out of sight...and not in a good way, either.

I paid 11.7 cents/gallon in Ft. Lauderdale, FLA in 1963 (the station across the street was changing its sign from 12.3 to 11.7 as I left... LOL!
Gee, I wonder how the oil companies continue to post record profits...

my guess would be that there is still plenty of gasoline and the petroleum interests dont want to bury themselves with any more people they cant do anything with, then as now

Sigh, same topic different price and different decade. Feeling old today ... Nez is great as well.

In 1974 gas was around $5.00 and, yes, we had to wait in line hours to get it.

Yip... This is why its important to educate ourselves on the history of things. Helps you understand whats happening in the present moment, and what's likely to happen in the future.
