@DeathKnight725 Ok, the rest is acceptable except take me with, to bring it back is very awkward in English and somewhat unclear. In anycase, it's difficult to translate well. I'm just gonna leave it at that.

@summertwinkle Not sure I agree with that. I'll do an experiment of literal translation right now. Count the syllables. --> I wake up, sleeping in moonlight. crescent moon, make me miss you. Don't want to wake up, who under(stands), Afraid you're gone when, I wake up. Heart that loves, deep as sea. Take me with, to bring it back (one syllable to spare). Please love me, (ten) thousand yeeeeeears.

See so for only one syllable has over stepped the boundary. And the (ten) can be an offbeat.

@DeathKnight725 Well colloquially, they are about the same for me. But I grimace at Chinese lyrics that are too colloquial. It's not artistic enough then!

My actual point for this particular song is that the number of syllables available is important since there are not that many musical notes per line. And the pauses in between could become awkward for English since one word = 2 to 4 syallables.

@summertwinkle I'd say in colloquial speech Mandarin takes up more syllables than English. However in lyrics, you can use poetic language that convey things English can not in fewer syllables.

@hardleecure True, but it's impossible for that to occur anyway cuz you can express more in Chinese w/ a few syllables than in English, which means English needs to be more creative with their expressions :D.

But truthfully, once you understand Chinese, it's really hard to appreciate good English lyrics because there aren't many.
