Adam Clayton Powell's life was a controversial one, involving militancy during the chapter of American history that saw a number of militant black leaders rebel against racial prejudice, sometimes in a violent manner. This portrayal is based on an interview Powell granted to Gil Noble of WABC-TV shortly before Powell's death. Produced by Gil Noble. 58 minutes, color and B/W.

  • He is not the only one who went on junkets back in those days. He was punished because he was much too powerul as a leader. I remember those days. Some of black leaders of the day helped to bring him down. Like crabs in a barrel.

  • Brother Adam Clayton Powell Junior, was so dynamic because he dedicated his life amongst Africans, because he wanted us, to have the same equality than anyone else.

Brother Powell was more and full of fire than the Martin Luther Kings, the Asa Philip Randolphs and the James Farmers.

  • I'm sorry but this dude doesn't look black at all.

  • why do we need to compare? they were both incredible men, with incredible voices. their blackness is within their souls, their hearts, their elders' tears, their childhood memories, and their goodness is in their ability to move people, and their ability to make them think. Instead of comparing and taking sides, view them as icons who changed history.

  • MALCOLM X rated Adam Clayton Powell, and said that he is one of us.

  • @Zzuni1 you don't know what I am, dick smoker. And the princess of Norway is blacker than Adam Clayton Powell.

  • @oldstock1607 Hey, You're White and therefore not qualified to talk about Blackness. Get outa here !

  • @Rockstafeller yeah, no we're not. The only reason I even know what the mythical "one drop rule" is, is because I'm an historian. Here's a memo to you. all progressive thought when it comes to racial issues, comes from the U.S., genius. Do me a favor, watch the youtube clip "European Racism." you will never, ever, in a trillion years see anything like that at an American sports venue. NEVER. so you europeans can take that self-righteous, "we're less racist than Americans" shit and shove it

  • @oldstock1607 at least the rest of the world sees people as who they are, while you are the only nation stuck with 1920 one drop rule

  • @Rockstafeller pfffftttt......typical BBC listener. Believe it or not, wherever it is you're from, Americans are less racist than you and your nation.

  • @oldstock1607 americans of course

  • @Rockstafeller and what "backwards asses" are you refering to?
