  • Its actually funny the way it happend. I wanted to get back in shape but not hardcore fighting stuff, was looking for Aikido, saw your ad in the paper and your site, and was thinking about coming to train with you guys, when I saw Tans website and got in touch with him. I might come up and train with you guys yet as there is alot of stuff that is differant and it is good to know variations.

Tan is very fast and effective. He makes people believers in Aiki.

  • You are welcome to come train with us anytime.

  • I know he did a self protection video some years ago, you sometimes see it for sale in magizenes that feature stuff like Paul Vunaks Street Safe vids. Don't remember what it is called. You guys are in Fresno, Tan teaches in Visalia, lives in 3 Rivers.

  • Oh, yes, I've seen him doing some gun disarmes.

  • Training the guy with the knive...If I was in some of those positions in real life encounters, I would heavily employ headbutts and knees to the groin. It is not aiki, but it works for me.

But playing by the rules...I wonder at who hard it might be, that drill.

  • I go home tired every night...

  • I think his website is TanAikiDojo

The weekend hours are slightly wrong. It is 5:30 to 7:00 fri and sat. The hours given for tue/weds is correct.

  • Sounds amazing, is there video of this?

  • ChuShinTani,

Yes, Sensei Tan 5 Dan Daito is simply amazing. I am just learning this stuff but I am from heavy Judo and karate background as well as kickboxing and cage, former mma fighting. You can resist him all day long and he tosses people around the same. He tapped out a bjj purple belt in seconds and some of my freinds saw it go down. Full contact with punches.

  • While I agree, striking is great. You will find that strikes aren't as effective when someone is trying to stop you from throwing them. And with someone is amped up and "game" they can take more punishment then normal. Also training like this with out strikes makes you better at the techniques, which is our real goal. All that said, we do train a fair amount of striking at our school.
