The 37 foot Hansa Sloop OLA, sailing from Herzliya Israel to Marmaris Turkey encountered strong winds to 45 knots and high waves to 6 meters during its passage between Paphos Cyprus and the Turkish coast. This short video captures some of the early moments of the storm when it was still possible to use the camera without getting it totally wet.

  • The pictures were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 3200 in video mode, which makes for both poor quality sound and video and limited duration due to limited capacity on the 256 MB card that I was using. After card fills up I have to dump content onto my laptop and then clear card. Try doing that in stormy seas. Not easy.

  • Nayim maod

  • You had to be there to know it. I think 60 knot winds and six meter waves qualify for a storm, even if the sun is shining.

  • Pictures taken during the run up to 60 knot winds and 6 meter seas.

  • Each to his own. In my part of the Mediterranean winds to 60 knots and waves to 6 meters qualify for the term "storm sailing."

  • More like 6 bft and pictures taken before storm picked up and camera was threatened. Winds reached 60 mph and waves to six meters. Not much in terms of Atlantic storms, but not trivial by any means.

  • Saludos a los navegantes!!!

  • it is beyond calm
