Inception - 2010 - Cobb Totem Scene - Fall?
SPOILER: If you read Michael Caine interview, then you know the truth but I prefer it just to be an ambiguous ending, so it open to any interpretation and to me its a much more powerful ending. Why? Because its going to be great for infinite viewing and we will always discussing/arguing which is the real/better/appropriate ending. And that my friends, what great movies should be, a never ending discussion even after a hundredth of times viewing. BTW I still don't know what 2001: A Space Odyssey end really meant...

  • Shit, we're actually more to arguing rather than discussing. This is a well made movie from a brilliant person, please at least refrains yourself from becoming the usual youtube users which is full of ME ME, RIGHT RIGHT, CAPS and some expletives for good measure.

    ...............

    Dudes, relax.

  • Sounds cool and plausible. For me, I think its more like a revelations; he knows all universe secret or at least how alive beings came to earth and universe and seeing all the big bang, and he is now is just a pure energy being void of any flaws and all that baby thingy black monolith is what he saw or thought in an artful form sort or way... or maybe not. But hey, it could be anything. Damn Kubrick for making this movie... :)

  • Dileep Rao [Yusuf-interview]: "You know what, I'll just say this: Use your ears not your eyes."

In dreams the Totem always spin constantly and smooth, never wobbles. At the ending, it WOBBLES -> it's REALITY. If you listen carefully after the black out [not after the credits], there's a sound of the Totem wobbling n dropped.

Cobb didn't wear a wedding ring while in reality, but he wore a wedding ring in the dreams [because in dreams he's still together with Mal]. He didn't wear it at the end.

  • at 0:03 keep clicking on that and you can hear it hit the table.

  • @skyarexstudios what scrape? You mean the end of the credits like the very very end or the end of the movie?

  • @IAMAGINGERDOGCALLED Its the music, i listened to the end on full blast for about 50 times, and if you watch the movie, that scrape happens on every line of that song on the end credits...

  • LISTEN CAREFULLY towards the end you can hear something slowly stop and scrape is it totem stpping or the music???

  • @Jomiline No, the totem wobbles A LOT!!! See the film again. For example, when Saito spins the totem in the beginning (in limbo) it wobbles, but then the camera cuts to a close up to show that it doesn't. Since this is a full flowing shot, a cut can't be made. Hence, the wobble isn't a good reason. Also, the children haven't aged since his recent memories, which would make it IMPOSSIBLE to believe with the MANY years of being away. I'm glad there is no direct ending as I see it as a dream.

  • @Jomiline YOU are a dummy. The ending is AMBIGIOUS!!! No matter what you think, stop trying to convince everyone that your thought is correct. It isn't. You clearly haven't seen any of the "making of the film" footage. Nolan said himself that he made the film so the ending was NOT direct. He made it so there is enough hints to make both possibilities work. Which mean it is VERY possible that he hasn't thought of a direct ending. He probably left it as it was without his personal opinion.

  • @KayWildcat Ofcourse Nolan thought of a Direct ending... And this was the Direct Ending... Dummy XD... Plus The Totem falls... If you look at the previous dreams of COBB.. where he uses the totem.. IT NEVER WOBBLES!!!.... Plus his kids are wearing different shoes only at the ENDING... All his other remembrance their wearing the exact same clothes and exact same shoes... but in the Ending they were different colored shoes... So... Cobb is in Reality :)

  • yes, it does.
