@dunnono00 When I said "Image" I mean the carefree hedgehog running around super fast beating the fuck out of everything while being very fun and worthwhile - That's what Colors and Generations brought back.
At the same time you do have a point. I doubt Sonic could top the sales list like back in the 90's without a new console and a new successful cast of games and characters from SEGA. Oh well, only time knows eh?

I don't know if his image was restored. For better or for worse, Sonic games have changed quite a bit since those 16-bit days, not to mention the character itself can never really be the same again. Sometimes that old saying is very true: "You can't go back again."
But perhaps you could say Sonic's reputation as a quality game franchise has been restored. We're certainly a long ways from Sonic 2006.

@h2ojr1 With colors and generations his image is completly restored.

lol I always knew Michael Jackson was very influential. Love him to death. But how the hell did Clinton inspire anybody? Well, it's all good, because Sonic's impatience is one of his most fun characteristics.

I'm not surprised Naka liked Mario, the battles were marketing ploys to sell the consoles. God I love how Sonic is based on so many different people and off superheroes, its so cool!~

@ripperoo1 actually sonic riders 1 was pretty bad ass on 4 player split screen kinda like mario kart.

3:15 When Yuji Naka talks about likening Sonic to Super Mario Bros. it sounds like he has a real fondness for Nintendo's games. I find that clearly different from what we were all familiar with with Sega in the 90's, where we knew them for bashing Mario and Nintendo with their "Genesis does what Nintendon't" ads. I think it goes to show that while companies like Sega care more about profits and getting ahead in business, the game designers themselves actually admire each others work very much.
