Not really, I've got a regular 172 and it can keep pace with my mates stripped out cup no probs.

I'm personally not a big fan of stripped out cars.They take out all the good suff that makes the car comfortable to live with on a daily basis: sound proofing, ac, and ridiculously sometimes even a stereo and all to save the weight of a packet of crisp, and in most cases they charge more for the priveledge! And how much faster does it go? The difference in performance is oft so slight you could only possibly realise the advantage on a track.
