Long before he became a broadcast news executive legend, a young, strapping Larry Perret was fresh out of college, overflowing with enthusiasm and working at NBC-TV as a Junior Executive Page for the late night network show, "Tomorrow with Tom Snyder." Tom Snyder, a legendary broadcast news anchor in major market stations such as KNBC-TV Los Angeles, always had a great sense-of-humor when it came to the business of TV News. (Sadly, Tom passed away in 2007 at the age of 71.) In November 1977 when Tom learned that one of his staff, Larry Perret was leaving the show to pursue a career doing what Tom had done for so many years, he couldn't resist the temptation to bring young Larry out onto the "Tomorrow" set to poke a bit of fun by making Larry read some newswire copy as though he were actually anchoring the newscast at KYCU-TV (now KGWN-TV) Cheyenne, Wyoming. For those of you who don't follow the career paths of broadcast news executives, Larry Perret didn't last long in front of the camera in Cheyenne but ultimately climbed the corporate ladder to the impressive height of News Director for KCBS-TV CBS2 Los Angeles in the 90's. I, Dan Schear, worked with Larry in 1980 at KPIX-TV San Francisco and again in 1993 at KCAL-TV Los Angeles. As of the posting of this video clip, Larry Perret is News Director for KTVX ABC4 Salt Lake City. Enjoy this timeless moment as Tom Snyder "plays" with Larry Perret one last time!
