Unwilling to admit her error to Dorcas for fear of being seen as irresponsible, Laura enlists Phillip and Alf to assist in her search.

Poor Alfie. I thought Laura was adorable in episode 1, but she doesn't hesitate to play Alfie for a love-sick fool when it suits her purposes, even when her heart clearly lies with Philip.

It amuses me that so many women view such rivalry as symptomatic of the silly machismo of male masculinity at work when such displays are invariably result of women urging them on with their feminine wiles and dishing out rewards to the winner. Boys fight and compete with one another because women reward them for doing so. Nothing more; nothing less.
