Dreamt up a new word today
In my ignorance I gave it meaning
Who was I to know
To say it is to know it
To hear it is to believe, is to believe

I dreamt the world would end
I was not wrong
To doubt, to discredit
The words I've heard before
From inside a shell pretending

It's all you've shown your faith
And what you've always known
So lay your trust in the unthinkable
It's time to justify your lesser faith

It's all your faith has shown
And all you'll ever know
Why do you matter, you're insignificant
How can you justify your lesser faith?

To know it is to fear it
To fear it is to say no, is to say no
To the blazing highs and lows
I know I'll fail
To break, to cast it down
You take your lead
From a staff that must be broken in two

It's all your faith has shown
And all you'll ever know
Why do you matter, you're insignificant
How can you justify your lesser faith?

  • (TO ME) this song is about people who blindly follow religion bc they were raised to believe in it. they never think for themselves and can't justify what they believe in. i personally believe in a god and afterlife, but i didnt come to that conclusion from what i was raised to believe. people are scared to think for themselves. im sure mikael has a totally different message but this is what the song means to me.

  • I wish metal wasn't so underrated, whatever sub-genre it may be. It really is one of the best things man-kind has ever done. You could argue that other genres like rock or hip-hop are better, and I guess it's an understandable opinion, but the lyrical and rhythmical perfection of this catagory of music is unmatched. Also, it isn't just screaming like some of our idiotic modern metal here in America. Astounding.

  • I always thought of the lyrics being about somebody who is chronically depressed and has an overly cynical view of the world. He beings to realize that his defeatist attitude is a self-fulfilling prophecy and decides he'd rather be excessively optimistic, hence "the lesser faith". Instead of convincing yourself there is no solution to your problems, work on convincing yourself there is ALWAYS a solution within your reach- otherwise you will turn into an apathetic zombie.

  • @Papawill13 i see what your thinking. but im not calling out those who believe differently than me. more like people that follow the religious "herd". people that never really stop to think about anything. i have a roommate who is athiest and we've had great religious talks. i dont condemn him or anyone who believes differently than me. i just think a lot of religious people who follow the herd with a closed mind.

  • @CareyPortnoyBeauford Is it not funny how you think song is calling out those who DID NOT DO WHAT YOU DID???

You said you came to the conclusion that God does exist through your own experience. And those who did not do what you did are some how less than you....

A belief is an Individual and Independent feeling and thought. Trying to get another person to follow your own path and/or belief is a Sign of a Lesser Faith.

  • Well, tbh I think most atheists are also atheists because they were raised to be ;) That's just the way people are, fellas...

  • @PBSisBAD I agree. There are TONS of good American Metal bands like Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Born of Osiris, I could go on. And rock is considerably close to metal in some cases... but metal can be heavier, lighter, more progressive, more repetitive, whatever. I see metal as just a more diverse form of rock, when you aren't worrying about all the itty-bitty details that really shouldn't effect your description of "good". But, of course, that's just my opinion.

  • @oamLHeadBangerLmao Agreed except for two things:

    1. Rock. This IS rock, just the most extreme, most brutal form of rock available. Whenever I say my favorite genre, I say Metal, but never forget rock as a close second. Rock'n'roll is king!

    2. (Scene kids excluded) There are lots of shitty American bands, but there are a lot of good ones as well. The Big 4 were all American. Possessed was American. Suffocation was American. Hell, death metal's namesake, Death, was from America. I rest my case.

  • 0:36 wonderful drums and guitar riffs there !

  • @NIDomusify not at all.

  • @CareyPortnoyBeauford It might be, but you yourself seem to fail to demonstrate any individual thought, by saying what you did. Myself I see this as the depiction of a resolute battle against an idea, that has taken form in one's mind, as a person born from it's concept. This person, representing an external influence, is threatening to the ego-concept of the protagonist, and must be humiliated and defeated, so his undesirable influence doesn't break one's ego-ingerity.

  • @dilnacislo5 dont have to be religion to blindly believe your ways of life, before we had religion, now we have media that makes us believe we will become some kind of glamour movie star, when we really all are just insignificant. with or without religion people will never really think for themself and blindly believe whatever the world tells them to.
