@Cinnamombunz - Where was this located?
-
It was a wonderful old building ... not being used as a brewery at the time, as I recall. Its destruction was the beginning of the end of the old, historic French Market/French Quarter as I knew it. Shortly after this, the mayor, Moon Landrieu, (father of La. Sen. Mary Landrieu), began the gentrification of that area, with the 'Moonwalk' as it came to be known, and the other 'Disneyfied' sterile theme-park type trendy shops and clubs. Too depressing.

Great video, Grate capture of all the action, I remember this fire like yesterday, i was right there, Sad to say i just came from Jackson Square a few blocks away after smoking a joint and a hit of LSD 25.. what a trip that fire was,I can't believe i stood there tripping for hours, i always thought that the fire was set by a few wine-os sleeping in the warehouse, A great building gone 4 ever i would have really been blown away if it had been the Rock warehouse at 1820 Tchoupitoulas & Felicity St

@Rapappport Make that "Pat O'Briens", not "O'Rileys".

@vivamusone What did he say during and about it?
-
What is not shown was during the height of mardis gras 1974 on Fat Tuesday. With the Quarter filled with revelers, a fire broke out in a sawdust bar right across from the main tourist attraction, O'Rileys.
With the streets totally filled with partyers, the fire Dept needed to come in. The amazing thing is that we all walked back into the bars and let the fire trucks through. We were a mass of moving, drinking, smoking partyers, and yet we all kept it together.
Amazing

I wouldn't think a brewery would contain the fuel to sustain a fire like that.
So glad that 900 didn't get crunched.
