Professional guide Tim Doyle demonstrates the traditional Smoky Mountain "Dapple" technique on wild native brook trout in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Dapping is the purest form of dry-fly fishing dating back to ancient Macedonia. Watch as these native brook trout literally jump out of the water after Tim's fly.. Please give Tim a call at 865-621-1709 to set up your next trout fishing adventure in and around the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. [Note: Tim Doyle is one of the most charismatic and well known guides in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests along with adjacent mountain streams, lakes, and TVA tailwaters.] http://www.smokymountainfly.com

  • I dapped an 11" rainbow today in Pisgah. It was in a log jam pool about 8 feet in diameter, sippin' midges off the top. No other way to present the fly but dap, its a great technique.

  • No question it's a great technique developed a long time ago, but still useful today!

  • now if y'all dont mind my asking what stream was this?

  • i will have to try this technique on some of the small creeks I know in Victoria, Australia. We have fond memories of a couple of days we stayed in a small cabin on the outskirts of Gatlinberg in the Smoky Mountains when we visited the US in 1992. Wasn't fishing then but I'd definitely take along a fly rod next time we visit.

    Cheers,

    Steve.
