Old Overseas Terminal coming down after 35 years. A historic building at PHL will be coming down to make more room for parking (2,000 more).

  • Sorry, I meant the Lufthansa DC-10-32. I'm not the first to get THOSE two types of airplanes confused, I'm sure :)

  • Inside the OST was like no other place in the world. I vaguely remember a mural of Washington crossing the Delaware, a dingy snackbar with those orange flowered paper cups, wood panelling, a bar, an arcade (complete with Ms Pac Man, Zaxxon, and other favorites), and a huge waiting area. It didn't matter how decrepit the atmosphere in that building was, or how hard it was to connect (luggage and all) to a flight over in the main terminals - to me (a wide eyed 8 year old), it was pure magic.

  • This terminal was a childhood icon for me. It was the only terminal in which aircraft were clearly visible on the tarmac while driving past on Essington Pike (before that section of I-95 was built in 85) I sorely miss seeing that huge Lufthansa L-1011 sitting on the far north end along with a Global International 707, a Transamerica DC-10 and a few AIA DC-9's (a deregulation "knockout" airline). I flew out of the terminal once in Jan 83, heading to PBI on an AIA DC-9-32 with my parents.

  • Wimper, sigh.
