Here are my Stevie Ray Vaughan settings, although, I dont think the BOSS ME-50 can really reproduce the tube amp sounds of SRV. The cabinet emulator on the ME-50 is very basic. In fact you cant even select different cabs or mike settings. I'd expect this to sound better with a more old style cab emulator that adds woof and mid range tone.

SRV has a very powerful sound. The distortion is almost fuzz, but at the same time clean. The tone is crispy, but warm. He also has this in your face slap response that is just so SRV. ie: When SRV hits a note, you feel it in ya bones.

This tone is an issue for me, because I think my Strat is a little too bright for SRV, and the strings are XL-120. I know SRV used hi action, which might account for a lot of the woody tone, which im missing. When you drop the tone a little, you loost clarity, so, im thinking it might be loosing some middle. Which the ME50 doesnt do well.

But, here goes. The settings are:

Guitar: USA Fender Strat
Tone Modify: H-S
Reverb: Hall on Max
OD/DS: Type= CRUNCH Drive=10 Bottom=10 Tone=10 Level=4
Modulation: Type=STCHORUS2 Rate=0 Depth=10 E.Level=10
Delay: Type=SPACEPAN Time=0 Feedback=0 E.Level=5

Thats is really. The problem with trying to model a tone on the ME-50 is, while one OD/DS might have the response and distortion you want, it wont have the correct eq, so you end up trying all the tone modify settings for each OD/DS.

Any you never quite find the one that sounds the best. That said, a lot of it is in your playing style anyway, so, chances are this will always sound like me playing blues regardless of how hard I try to make it sound like SRV.

Anyway. There it is. Im sure I could do better if I re worked my guitar and spent more time on it, but thats a respectable SRV tone i think

  • good sound, but not SRV... sorry man. too much distortion, not enough overdrive

  • @rkc5150 A better clean overdrive tone is at 1:35

but, yea, tube's give a nicer overdrive tone to solid state.

  • I've a ME-50, you've done real well EpiphoneGear ! Not the easiest of toys to tune in a tone, nicely played !

  • @Bruce097 Thanks bruce. I think with some tweeking, it would sound decent in a mix. A lot of tones have to be heard in context in order to really hear what they sound like. Bass and drums really effect the tone of the guitar in a mix imho.

  • hah. it does sound somewhat like him.

but it also sounds damn modern. whether that's a good thing or not, i think it's up to the individual to decide.

  • @000steelandstone000 Thanks man. SRV was amazing! I loved his tone and style. Very very soulful with a voice to match a god. Im just me playing I guess. Its a blue-ish tone but yes, I am popping the distortion a little too much making it sound "moderm". SRV is a lot more laid back. Maybe when im a little more older I can play this better

  • Also remember to down tune a little stevie rarely played in E. That will help get that srv sound too it makes a big difference.

  • not too bad, a little Hendrixish too Stevie was Stevie though, and he was about tube amps fat strings and his style. And he used all different kinds of amps, sometimes together. This would be fine for a couple of SRV tunes in a cover band.

  • can you do the settings for Red House - Jimi Hendrix?

  • great job - sounds sweet

  • Nice job on licks, though.Well played.

  • wow, sound realy cool... yeha....

  • I'm looking forward to trying these settings out tomorrow on my Me-50. I usually use my TS-9 tubescreamer when trying to play srv, but maybe pairing it up with the me50 could help. Thanks!

  • This is the best SRV emulation from a pedal I've heard. Great job! All you need now is a Fender Vibratone cabinet with a Utah speaker, or a Twin amp with the single 15" Jbl. Stevie's favorite combo setup of choice. Hence, final output of "the sound".
