www.EmploymentCrossing.com Major San Francisco-based new media companies Current Media, Six Apart and Wired.com all laid off employees this week, according to company officials and published reports. The largest layoffs were at Al Gores Current Media, a broadcaster of viewer generated content. About 30 people in three US offices lost their jobs, and 30 more were moved into new positions, according to a company statement. Current retains 410 employees. Six Apart, a blogging software and services company, let go 8 percent of its 200 workers. The creator of the Movable Type blogging platform hired 90 people earlier this year. And a dozen people were laid off across various departments at Wired.coms San Francisco bureau, nearly a quarter of the 50 person staff, according to Valleywag.
