This timeless tune would be the perfect 'country' song of today if only it mentioned a bar room or a bed room. This ballad was very popular from the 1870's through WW1. It is a pure love song. Strangely enough, this song was written during what many American music historians called the 'dead zone' of American music history. This 'zone' dated from 1865 through 1900. These historians claim that very few original songs of quality were produced in that time period. • Where do you find these original lyrics? Very enjoyable.

  • @Mycroft1234 There are many places on the internet that have the original lyrics . Just type the name of a song and type lyrics after it such as - Jingle Bells lyrics or Sweet Betsy From Pike lyrics. The chances are that you'll find them. Thanks - Tom

  • I have never heard anything so beautifully performed in my life, my friend Glyn introduced Tom to me.

Muriel xxx Thanks for posting MusicOfTom Roush.

  • @REDLEN308GTB Thanks for the compliment! It's always an honor to hear from someone from beautiful Australia, which next to the U.S. is my favorite country

  • I have this on an old 78rp Victor disk . My mother didn't like to hear the record when a girl and she didn't like me playing it when she was around. She did not like counter-tenors !!

  • Thanks for the information. Also enjoyed your rendition of "Home On The Range" very much.

  • There may be a reason for why marriages dont last much today. People back then cherished each other more.

  • such a timeless song from victorian Ireland so sentively sung and the pictures are ace.

  • There is a sad tragic footnote I learned years ago to this tune. The composer, Hark P.Danks, never composed any other major tune. In later years he and his wife seperated. He died alone in old age, and left a written message, "It is hard to grow old alone." I saw this in a book by Dale Carnegie (of How to Win Friends and Invluence People) entitled Little Known Facts About Well Known People.

  • Lovely! The title is a very clever one. Beautiful!
