This letter is famous at Pet Rescue By Judy, posted on our Rainbow Bridge. Hugh documents the journey experienced by many of our volunteers, fosters and adopters. He articulates beautifully the transition from, "Gee, getting a dog/cat would be fun" to "This animal and it's spirit has touched my soul and changed my life." He captures why so many people are willing to risk the heartbreak of adopting a senior dog, fostering, volunteering with rescued pets. He blessed Suzie and us.

I go back and forth on whether or not this sotry sad. What was sad was the phone call from Seminole Animal Control, begging us to take Suzie. What was sad was Suzie sitting trembling in a crate, with no one interested in adopting her. What was sad was Hugh living in a new city, without his family, without his friends. It would have been sad if Hugh had not fostered again. But he has taken in Mona, an emaciated, 8 year old backyard breeder Boxer. Who likes to wrestle. Another life saved.

Since I last posted, I became a foster for 2 Japanese Chins.and I have adopted a chin 3 yrs. ago. My heart goes out to these poor homeless doggies.

Your story was told so well. It hit my heart. I can't stop crying. Loved the value meal treat. LOL! Them cried so many tears. Love to the fosters that save our precious friends from a total life of hell. May many more be inspired to foster or adopt a rescue. Bless the people who give of their love. Bless you.

this is so sweet and reminds me that good people do exists out there and i applaud this man for his loving tribute and loving care of this little lady for her last months. we only adopt now and often senior animals and find it very rewarding as you see these poor dogs become more and more comfortable in your home. you give them the care they should have always had and most often you have to get their weight back up by feeding them good food and just give them love. keep up the good job.

this was very touching i laughed i cryed and a little in between you got to remember that she had the best time of her life being with you and you did a very good thing helping her so good job and nice work i think your a great owner and any dog would be happy to live with you so adopet and make sure they have the time of there life being with you your a good person!

I was so blessed to read this letter right after Hugh sent it out. It was forwarded to me and I cried and cried tears of joy for Suzie and tears of sadness for Hugh. When they finally leave us we find that the joys of fostering by far out weight the sadness. Thank you Hugh for giving a little old lady so much love and happiness in her last months of life! Thank you to all our foster parents that make such a big difference in our lives and the lives of the babies! You are truly a blessing to us!

So... Mona likes to wrestle eh? A true Boxer!!! The beauty of this story is that Suzie had a chance to go when SHE was ready, not when WE mandated it to be so. One day, I hope I grow up to be like Hugh.
