sung in latin, portuguese and konkani, the ladainha is a unique Goan style of worship. according to maestro lourdinho barretto, Goa was the only place in the world which was granted the right by church authorities to sing prayers in this manner. left unsaid is the suggestion that it is in deference to pre-Christian (i. e. Hindu) traditions of bhajans, kirtans, etc.
