For Round 2 of MemphisGal94's contest! Hope you enjoy! Yes, I know it sucks :( A glint of malice in her eyes, she watched the fire burning all of her partner’s possessions. A reflection of the flames in her dilated pupil, her lips parted to reveal her dazzling white teeth in a smile. Perhaps she was crazy, she thought to herself. She didn’t care. It was his fault anyway. His screams and yells from the bedroom window seemed distant and almost inaudible. She laughed, enjoying his suffering for once. He loved her, and she hated him. “I’m sorry!” he shrieked, closing his wet eyes. His body was shaking and his heart ached terribly. She laughed still, loving his pain. It was too late for apologies. It was pointless to give in now; she’d only get him back. He’d never learn the lesson she planned to teach him. It was too late to save their relationship, she’d known that lying on a hospital bed two weeks ago. *--------------------- 4 months before “Do you want to know what gender it is?” the nurse asked in her kind voice. “Or shall we keep it a surprise?” “Surprise, please,” he said hastily. “Oh!” she whined. He laughed, stroking her hair. “It’ll be better that way,” he assured her. “Our baby.” ---------------------------* The thought of it made her shiver. She refused to believe that she’d loved him enough to carry his child. The child she’d hoped and dreamed for. Their lives had once been perfect, like a fairytale. But the cold reality of the world had caught up with them eventually. He was crying for her. That made her cringe, and guilt washed over her. But she had to have her revenge. “Danielle! Please!” he shouted out to the chill of the night. The only light was emanating from the fire she’d lit. His clothes, his valuables: all of it was now just ashes. She laughed. “This time it’s your tears, Kevin!” she screeched. “Now you know how it feels to lose everything you love!”
