@meursault48 Read a book, Wilson tried to help Afghanistan by proposing billions of aid after the war but it was shut down by the U.S. government and Pakistan.

Charlie, I love you, I miss you. You are a legendary hero who saw our trajedies before any idiot politician did. You are a true Texas man with a heart of gold, and backbone! Yeah, that's what we need more of in this world. More men with backbone! Love you and miss you Charlie~!

@meursault48 Actually, if you read the book by George Crile III, it describes him as a lobbyist for Pakistan following his retirement from Congress. This was years after the war ended...AFTER he had lobbied hard to get help into Afghanistan by proposing a multi-million dollar relief package that was tossed aside. Since the Cold War was over and reshuffling within the State Dept. was a main priority-and eyes shifting towards Eastern Europe, Charlie did what he could.

Great movie, great guy, but responsible for truly terrible judgement in channelling CIA dollars to the Pakistanis rather than direct to the Northern Alliance. We'd be living in a different world now and it is highly likely 911 would not have happened had Charlie Wilson made sure the aid got to the good guys and not to the ghastly Hekmatyar who now is still allied to, you guessed it, OBL. As for the ISI. The villains of the piece. And still are....

I love that Congressman Wilson said, "good democrat." Notice that he didn't call himself a liberal or a progressive... LOL Charlie Wilson was a good democrat.
