I've always loved this song by Joe Jackson. Great words, great melody and a fine performance. Love the Johnny Marr style of guitar playing too. I think Joe was singing about Portsmouth, the city he grew up in (''waves and seagulls'' which we don't have in Blackburn), but the images that I have put with it are of my hometown. Most of the photos are from old postcards, but my thanks to Stuart Ashworth for the pics of the statue of Jack Walker and the Wainwright Bridge (night view) and to Ruth Martin, for her lovely photo of St John's Church. Enjoy the slide show and go out and buy a Joe Jackson album or two, you wont regret it.
