This is Part II of David Brown's interview of Danish serial entrepreneur, writer and speaker Martin Thorborg. In this segment they go further into the amount of time required for startups to flourish (3-5-7 year plans corresponding well with VC 10 year funds), whether to plan for IPO from inception or focus on building a solid company first, should a company go to Silicon Valley to set up & raise capital or build a base in their home country (likely boot strap) first? Denmark Venture Capital is almost non-existent - close to impossible to get funded there, Denmark startups "don't shoot for the stars" - they don't want to work that hard to get there - happy to make $10-$20 million take 4 months off a year. Martin runs an Denmark entrepreneur portal - hears lots of concern that venture money is hard to get but often do not have a viable business plan or history that is required to get funded. Martin also talks about Skype founder Janus Friis and how his "overnight success" was anything but that - instead it took 4 years in a garage coding just to prepare for a launch. He also talks about the birthing of other companies like Kazaa and how that turned out. Look for Part III coming soon!
