1979 - 2009, 30 years of trains returning to Woollshed Flat. 36 years ago, it was at a meeting on 3rd May 1973 it was suggested the formation of Pichi Richi Railway Society by Mr K. A. Smith O.B.E., Commissioner of the Commonwealth Railways.
On 28th October 1973 the first working bee was held for purpose of repairing fences, clearing of cuttings etc. Members were asked to assemble at Quorn Railway station at 9am with picks, shovels, rakes and crowbars. If you intended staying the whole day to also bring your lunch & drink.
Quentin Smith, the Societies first Secretary in his first report stated; One of the most rewarding experiences of life is the sense of achievement inherent in having one's dreams fulfilled. Especially to a point beyond that dream. Well, I think this Society has gone well beyond anything those foundation members could have visualise being achieve.
