Flytandem's TransX video tutorial for Orbiter Space Flight Simulator. Uploaded with permission.

Starting in low Earth orbit, this video shows the creation and complete flight of a transfer to the moon and free return back to Earth. It moves along fairly fast so it's not really intended for those just starting out with TransX.

  • I have finally figured this out. (Sort of.) I feel like this tutorial lacks a lot of clarity. This tutorial definitely helped, but it really needs more depth of explanation.

    .

The problem I am still having is getting the Focus PeD to become something like 5.5M. But whereas before I couldn't get the Focus PeD to come down from 100M+, now I can't get it to go up. (It's "stuck" below 1M.)

    .

Getting it right (which I have a couple of times now) has just been random luck.

  • Had another go at this one today. I'm able to sling around the moon without any problem, but my periapsis back at Earth (my Focus PeD) is always 100M+. I can't seem to bring it down.

I suppose I'll figure it out at some point.

  • I need a simpler tutorial. texfilms goes too fast.

  • Very cool. A little over my head at this point, but I'm catching on. I've made the earth to Moon flight dozens of times. (Using the regular MFD's, not TransX.) I'm really comfortable with all aspects of that flight, so I'm getting a little antsy to try something else. So far I haven't been able to figure out how to come back to Earth, how to come down out of Earth orbit and land at a target base, and I certainly haven't figured out anything like going to Mars.
