German voice-over interviews with Michael Carreras and Peter Cushing, as well as short clips from the set of Hammer's/Shaw Brothers' SHATTER/CALL HIM MR. SHATTER, from a German TV documentary on Hongkong cinema.
The story behind this film is more interesting than the finished product. The original director was Monte ( Two-Lane Blacktop ) Hellman, who was fired and replaced by Michael Carraras. Peter Cushing easily steals every scene he is in, and the funky score is pretty good. Nice location photography is in contrast to Hammer's by now lame, explotative approach to storytelling. We get a little light relief with the romantic scenes between Lily Li and Stuart Whitman, but the film needs some humor.
Shame there's not more of Cushing and being able to hear him speak. This is one film with Cushing in that I haven't watched, by the sounds of it I haven't missed much.
