the USSR had collapsed because they used all the available resources under their hands in order to control Afghanistan and defeat the Mujaheddin which had deepened the economic gap in the communist state .
This war as one of the key causes, along with systemic and leadership-based factors, in the disintegration of the Soviet Union .
