La Bruja (Los Hermanos Ochoa)

La Bruja is an unusual Son Jarocho from the Sotavento- Catemaco region of Veracruz. Its highly melodic and breaks from the Son rhythm in to either 2/4 or 3/4 time (kind of like the Jarabes of the Central Plateus)

Anyone who has spent time in Rural Mexico knows of dark, dimly lit nights in old houses and the many stories & legends of ghosts, demons & witches that abound.

La Bruja... The Witch is one such legend, that is perhaps the cultural equivalent of Rumania's Dracula. The Witch is a sinister creature, in the form of a woman, who needs to suck your blood. The Witch (without a doubt a precussor to the Chupacabras legend) is both scary & a masochistic sexual fantasy very common throughout the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. The lines between the two are so blurred that in the double entendres of the region, The Witch has come to represent the sexually repressed, dissatisfied or lonely middle aged woman out to hunt down some "fresh blood."

jarocho es el gentilicio usado para los habitantes de la region de Veracruz puerto. El termino jarocho no es un termino general para las personas de todo el estado. Esto no quiere decir que no ame mi hermoso y bello estado. Gracias

Jarochos solo son aquellos que viven en la costa ¬¬ y el sobrenombre se debe a que los antiguos habitantes cazaban con JARAS en el mar... los xalapeños no son jarochos ¬¬
