This film is one of a three-part series of films produced by PBS, on the life and works of the great thinker and psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung. Born on July 26, 1875, in Switzerland, Jung became interested in psychiatry during his medical studies. He saw that the minds of mentally deranged persons had similar contents, much of which he recognized from his own interior life, described in his autobiography Memories, Dreams, Reflections. His lifelong quest to understand the workings of the psyche led him to develop the analytical method of psychiatry. He proceeded by looking at the role in his patients' lives of what he termed the personal and collective unconscious, as expressed through dreams, myths, and outer events.

  • @PhilosophicalViking

    Yeah no shit, eh!

  • @TimeTraveI If I would not have an ego, then that would mean I would simply obey and follow others, and inhale other peoples theories and beliefs as if I am a sponge. Isn't the ego responsible for self preservation and self identification ? And if there is no material location for the ego, then.... Who am I ?

  • @TimeTraveI Hmm. I thought the ego is in fact self respect and confidence and self love. I thought conciousness is just a bunch of chemicals in our pineal gland. If conciousness resides in the ego, what exactly is the ego and where is it located?

I am not trying to convince you of my belief system, I am merely sharing my belief system and am not twisting your arm, I am merely presenting a theory, it is up to you to accept or reject it. I will not be affected by your decision either way.

  • @Hrko1992 It's scientific fact that consciousness resides in the ego. You can't get consciousness from the pineal gland, it's a gland. It only produces chemicals like melatonin.

You're talking about letting the ego go, while at the same time trying to convince me of your belief system, ironically belief systems are created by the ego. If you removed your ego, you wouldn't even be able to continue this conversation.

  • @TimeTraveI The ego can be removed. Once it is removed or atleast diminished to a near invisible level, one can proceed through life in a tea cup fashion =) . Our conciousness resides in our pineal gland, which is a small part of your brain located in your smaller brains in the back of your head. The complex of personality is conciouss memories and unconciouss memories, huddled together into what is the ''self''. Things you experienced as a child, good, bad, things u've seen, felt. That is ''me'',

  • @Hrko1992 You can't actually remove ego without removing conscious awareness. It's impossible since that's where our consciousness resides. The best anyone can do is understand the ego in relation to the self, after all, it's the ego that is a complex of the personality.
