That was an abridged version of the oath of enlistment not the commissioning oath.

I'm well aware of that. You can see him make a face and pause where he forgets the oath that he tried to memorize. To this day, he still claims he did it on purpose. That's why the description says he "freestyled" the oath. When I sat down, a fellow commissionee said to me, "I think you just became a seaman."
