PIETRO LOCATELLI (1695-1764)

Introduzione teatrale for strings Op. 4 No. 5

1. Allegro

2. Andante

3. Presto

Performed by The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra
Directed by Ton Koopman

*Interestingly, despite writing these introduzione, which are essentially opera sinfonias in the Neapolitan style, Locatelli never wrote a single piece of vocal music.

  • What a lovely fanfare in the beginning. Locatelli is truly a wonderful composer who teeters elegantly on the bridge between Baroque and Classical style.

Perhaps a bit of his L'arte del Violino in the future...? No. 2 in C minor is absolutely splendid.

    Thanks for sharing, Harmonico!

  • I have a few L'arte del violin concertos uploaded, including the C minor concerto. :)

  • Do you? I can't seem to find it in the search feature on your page...

Don't mean to be a pest! Haha. Either way, thanks again for sharing so much lovely music with us. :)

  • Oh, I'm sorry. I got mixed up. G minor is the minor key concerto from the set I have uploaded. I can try and upload the c minor if you want.

  • Ton Koopman est un magicien du son absolument parfait.Merci.

  • I found the opening music unbelievably exciting and the whole piece has been added to my favourites.

  • It is in Des Dur :-) in this record

  • The "Milan's instrumental school"? I don't know... but he's VERY well known to violinists, musicians and scholars, and - for what I know - to the general music lovers, although not as much as Vivaldi. I lived in Bergamo for 13 years, where he, Grossi, Legrenzi and Donizetti were all born. :-) His "capricci" from his violin concertos are the precursors of Paganini's

  • Is it D major ?

  • wonderful piece. Locatelli is unfortunately not well known . He was a great master of the Milan's instumental school, together with the brothers Sammartini. Thank you Harmonico

  • AAAh - what superb melodies and so expertly played also. Every time when I see Ton Koopman mentioned it seems to be a guarantee for quality.

Hope one day he will come to Australia and perform here !!!

  • Freiburg Baroque Orchestra did Locatelli's Introduttioni, Op. 4 too.

  • how many files do you have about this music?? (sorry for my english)
