Breeding Tilapia in Loxahatchee #14

We started this test project on December 20, 2010 today is January 12, 2011 23 days have passed and the plants are doing great. For Florida the weather has been cold and reached 39° but it also has been in the 70s. When we complete building the greenhouse I'm confident that the aquaponic system will work for us. However we will use the clay balls with a flood and drain system. Tilapia fish will not eat when the water temperature is below 65 to 70° and the water temperature has been below that for the last three weeks. The good side to that is I have not had to feed the fish, algae grows well in the cold water so they are fine. The fish will die if the temperature gets below 45 to 50°, I had to heat the water up a couple times.

Congratulations. The eggs take 3-5 days in the mothers mouth.the larval fry 7-10 days swimming in and out of the mothers mouth and free swimming on there own after that. I just take the male out.and let mom do it all. They don't breed when we want them too. :) but it is exciting when it happens. Love the egg tumbler.

can you please tell me where you got those stone like things you use as filter? and if there are some alternatives .. great job.. i am definitively gonna follow your system
